This is a collaboration offered to a work pioneered and led by the Genoa University, school of thermodynamics. The aim is to exploit the properties of some material to switch from paramagnetic to ferromagnetic state, with different energy levels, when subjected to a strong magnetic field. Such a thermodynamic machine would not need state change fluids, always an issue with dispersion in the atmosphere, and could offer a high efficiency and potentially wide temperature range. In fact, a similar technology is used in extreme cryogenics, such as what is needed in superconductivity and quantum mechanics experiments. Phase is providing the technology of strong permanent magnet manufacturing and control to this collaborative work.
